The Wireless Speaker and Audio Association (WiSA) announced that global semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies has joined the organization. WiSA is an industry group that is dedicated to bringing audio, video, and home entertainment companies together to create a truly wireless and high-res home theater experience.
“Infineon Technologies is an excellent addition given their diverse audio experience and product development capabilities across varying product types,” Tony Ostrom, president of WiSA, said in a statement. “As our membership continues to grow with companies worldwide, so does the potential for consumers to create the perfect wireless home theater experience by selecting the products and brands that are right for them, their goals and environment.”
Germany-based Infineon is a leader in the semiconductor market. They are known for implementing their technology into a wide array of products, aimed at making life “easier, safer, and greener.” In addition to increasing performance of modern technology, Infineon plays a major role in creating energy efficient and environmentally-friendly solutions.
What makes the WiSA membership particularly of interest is that Infineon recently acquired Merus Audio, a Copenhagen startup that manufacturer integrated, energy-efficient audio amplifiers. By integrating their own technology into Merus’ solutions, Infineon customers have access to a “leading-edge Class-D audio amplifier portfolio.”
And now, as a WiSA member, the association said Infineon will be able to partner with other tech suppliers to make it easier for brands to integrate WiSA-certified technology. The result will be bringing higher quality home audio products to market that allow for content of a “multitude of sources” to be enjoyed through WiSA-certified systems.
“This membership presents Infineon’s undisputable commitment to the continued support of designing WiSA-certified speakers,” Jens Tybo Jensen, Head of Marketing and Application Engineering for Class D Audio at Infineon Technologies AG, said in the statement. “With our Merus Audio product line of highly energy-efficient multi-level amplifiers alongside our already existing home audio business, Infineon possesses the opportunity to dramatically unleash new possibilities for WiSA members with the added benefits for end users worldwide.”
To date, WiSA has built a roster of more than 30 different member brands in the home entertainment space.
