Meet Vizio XLED Powered 2017 4K TVs
Vizio has introduced its 2017 lineup of SmartCast Ultra HD 4K P- Series and M-Series TVs. The sets boast the company’s XLED full-array LED local-dimming backlighting. They further benefit by several Smart TV platform enhancements, and, via a summertime over-the-air upgrade, the Vizio SmartCast app, now accessible on mobile devices, will be accessible directly from the TV displays through the new SmartCast TV user interface; this will also be available as an upgrade on 2016 UHD SmartCast displays, the company said. Both series, moreover, will have Google Assistant voice control capability when the sets are used with the Google Home speaker.
The full-array LED backlighting technology on the flagship P-Series in 55-, 65- and 75-inch screens ($1,299.99 through $3,499.99) – called Ultra HD HDR XLED Pro - provides 128 zones of local dimming (126 zones on the 55-inch model) and 600 nits of typical brightness.
On the mid-level M-Series sets, offered in 50-, 55-, 65-, 70- and 75-inch screen sizes ($799.99 through $2,999.99), the full-array backlighting technology is called Ultra HD HDR XLED Plus, and offers 32 local dimming zones and 350 nits of typical brightness.
Full-array LED backlighting is especially effective in producing enhanced picture quality when it is combined with HDR technology, said Carlos Angulo, senior manager, product marketing, who demonstrated the sets this week for the media. Both series feature HDR10 and Dolby Vision content support.
The M-Series, moreover, now offers Ultra Color Spectrum wide color gamut technology, which has migrated to that range from the P-Series for 2017, he said.
Both the P-Series and the M-Series sets are members of Vizio’s SmartCast collection, meaning that each set has Chromecast built in, allowing viewers to browse thousands of Chromecast-enabled apps including 4K and HDR content.
Enhancements to SmartCast, said Angulo, were devised based on “how viewers use” the Smart TV platform, and are meant to simplify certain content discovery – such as making 4K high-quality streaming content easier to find by aggregating the available choices.
Vizio has also introduced several new audio products for 2017 – all with built-in Chromecast compatibility, enabling users to easily stream music from Chromecast-enabled audio apps. They include the Crave Go ($199) multiroom wireless speaker, with built-in kickstand. The Crave Go features two 2.05-inch drivers and is of a passive radiator design.
Also new, in soundbars, are the Vizio 36-inch 2.1-channel soundbar system ($149.99) and the 36-inch SmartCast 5.1-channel wireless soundbar system ($249.99), which includes two satellite speakers and a wireless powered subwoofer; the latter system also features a center channel that enhances dialogue clarity.
