At its annual dealer line show last week, Toshiba rolled out a comprehensive line of TVs for 2006, including a heavy dose of LCD flat panels, DLP rear-projection and CRT direct-views, as well as TV-DVD combos.
Toshiba also took the opportunity to heavily plug its HD DVD players, including news that other, as-yet-unnamed manufacturers would deliver players by next January’s Consumer Electronics Show. Toshiba said movie studios expect to offer about 200 HD DVD titles by this holiday season; an unspecified number of titles will be releases in combination formats that feature both HD DVD and standard DVD on one disc.
Top billing among the TVs was the new Regza line, which will span 20- to 47-inch screen sizes. Toshiba will offer just two plasma TVs this year: 42 and 50 inches. One notable innovation was Toshiba’s ReelSteel stainless steel 20-inch LCD TV, designed for use in kitchens.
