What Matters Most: Pro Control
Our featured interview is with Jimmy Smith, Senior Project Manager at Wireless Connections of Joplin, MO and Jay Juarez, Install/Service Manager at Bjorn’s Audio/Video of San Antonio, TX.
Technology Integrator: Pro Control is a relatively new brand started by RTI. Can you explain what Pro Control offers that make it a desired option over other branded solutions?
Jimmy Smith: In the custom integration market, there are custom remote controls that appeal to, and meet the needs of, the high-end client and the budget-conscious client. Traditionally, however, the market hasn’t been able to meet the expectations of the client who wants something in between the two. Pro Control fills that void, providing high-end capability at a budget price.
Jay Juarez: The Pro Control line offers premium features at a lower price point, while still allowing reasonable margins.
TI: What are the typical applications for Pro Control products? How are you using the products?
Jimmy Smith: We have been using Pro Control products both commercially and residentially. The typical application has been in the residential market with new home owners.
Jay Juarez: We are using these mainly as one-room solutions, and entry-level to minimal two-zone applications.
TI: Pro Control has been proactive in developing apps for the Apple and Android market. Do you see this as an opportunity to interact with new customers to integrate tablets and smart phones as additional control devices?
Jimmy Smith: Absolutely. I believe that we are in a position technologically to offer total control to our customers without the purchase of additional equipment. The ability to control all things with a phone or tablet, which we usually have right beside us at all times, has changed the industry. A common question we receive is “how long until this remote is outdated?” Now we have the answer with app control. Furthermore, Pro Control has given our customers the security of knowing that they can still control the equipment if anything happens to their smart device via a supplemental remote.
Jay Juarez: I think that is a natural progression for this technology, making it an excellent feature that would appeal to new customers.
