Starpower to Bring 98-inch Samsung 8K QLED TV to Retail
Starpower Home Entertainment and Samsung announced that the North Texas-based retailer will be the first in the country to introduce the 98-inch QLED TV to the consumer market. 8K TVs have been available out in the wild now for a few months in different forms. But to-date we’ve yet to see one of these massive new screens that pushes 100-inches in size become available. Starpower and Samsung will officially bring that waiting period to a close with the launch of the 98-inch set on May 9th.
“Thanks to our partnership and support from Samsung, the [Dallas Fort Worth] metroplex will be the first to see the 98-inch 8K QLED TV,” David Pidgeon, President and CEO of Starpower, said in a statement. “The picture quality is beyond amazing and something you truly have to experience.”
The TV is massive in size, but also quite the best in terms of the technology within the display. The 2019 8K TV features twice as many horizontal and vertical pixels as currently available 4K sets, and quadruples the linear resolution of those Full HD 1080p TVs that still dominate the consumer market. The one question that remains with 8K TVs is content availability, but Samsung looks to address those early concerns with impressive AI-powered intelligent upscaling supported by the 8K HDR picture quality of the TV itself.
Detailed and displayed at numerous shows over the past few months, the 98-inch 8K QLED TV from Samsung may be just as notable because of the price tag as it is the picture quality. The set carries a price tag of $70,000, according to its listing on the Samsung website.
In celebration of the launch of the 98-inch TV here in the U.S., Starpower said it plans to hold a “colossal event” at its Dallas location from 6-8 p.m. on the 9th. The event will showcase the new 8K set alongside other Samsung 8K and 4K offerings.
