Atlantic Technology’s IWCB (In-Wall Closed Box) line of architectural speakers features completely sealed enclosures for improved performance. The three models employ either 5.25-inch or 6.5-inch woofers, soft dome tweeters, and acoustic controls. The IWCB-525 (pictured) includes a second diaphragm, identical to that used in its woofer, that is mounted as a bass pressure driver for improved linearity and extended bass response.
Klipsch launched in-wall versions of its THX Ultra2-certified custom home theater system: the KL-7800-THX in-wall LCR ($1,000 MSRP) and KS-7800-THX in-wall surround ($750 MSRP). These models can create a complete THX Ultra2-certified in-wall system when installed with Klipsch’s KW-120-THX subwoofers and a KA-1000-THX subwoofer amplifier; they can also be matched with its THX Ultra2 box product.
Niles Audio introduced 26 new ceiling-mount loudspeakers and subwoofers that will ship early next year. Included is the CM730DS ceiling-mount speaker (pictured, $400/pair), which features a seven-inch fully-pivoting polypropylene woofer with butyl rubber surround and a one-inch soft-dome, bridge-mounted, joystick-type pivoting tweeter. Tweeter level control is provided.
DBL Distributing says its new, mid-priced Emphasys line of 15 custom install speakers is designed to be “easy to buy and easy to sell, with products that fill only the most in-demand needs of dealers.” Products include in-ceiling and in-wall LCR speakers. The line features aluminum woofers and tweeters for low distortion.
PSB Speakers expanded its value-priced CustomSound Series with six new in-walls: the CW28, CW26, CW80R, CW88R, CW60R and CW50R (MSRPs range from $229 to $479, shipping fourth quarter). The CW28 and CW26 are rectangular two-way designs; the rest are two-way round coaxial models. Each comes with “dog leg” mounting clamps for quick installation.
BG’s PD Series in-wall and in-ceiling speakers range in price from $400 each to $1,000 per pair. They feature a new magnet system that provides higher sensitivity, along with revised crossovers for smoother response, black Kevlar woofers and redesigned ribbon faceplates. The PD-6Ci (pictured, $599 per pair, available late fall) is a two-way in-ceiling speaker featuring BG’s patented planar ribbon tweeter.
