Sony’s 4K Ecosystem Approach Reaches CI Channel at CEDIA Expo
Sony Electronics announced new home theater front projectors to be available in late autumn for the custom install channel: the VPL-VW1100ES and VPL-VW600ES 4K front projectors – at CEDIA Expo, and will stress an ecosystem approach to their marketing, said executive vice president Mike Fasulo.
The $28,000 VW1100ES is to be available in a premium service package - bundled with a Sony Xperia Z tablet, a replacement lamp, and the Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player (model FMP-X1), which can be used to access, download, store and play back 4K content from Sony’s recently initiated Video Unlimited 4K service.
Fasulo said that Sony sales to date among the hundreds of custom integrators that make up its CIS custom integrator-specific channel program versus 2012 sales for a comparative period are up over 25 percent, and among Sony’s 90 top-tier CIS “Diamond” dealers, sales are up over 50 percent for the period.
As part of a strategy to tap into this uptrend, Sony has hired ex-Niles Audio executive Frank Sterns to the newly created position of vice president, custom installation.
The 1100ES supports 4K/60p content and the HDMI 2.0 standard. Another projector, the $15,000 VPL-VW600ES, is the company’s new entry-level 4K model. It also is available as a bundled purchase.
