Alarm.com turns to water damage prevention
Alarm.com, a smart-home security provider, has developed a new system to protect homes from water damage. The system will use a combination of sensors, devices, and Alarm.com cloud services to detect water leaks, alert homeowners of the situation, and proactively respond to minimize the potential damage.
Alarm.com said the new Water system will be fully integrated into the company’s Smart Home Security offerings and is powered by the Alarm.com cloud platform.
“Alarm.com is focused on applying Smart Home technology to real challenges, making the home safer and smarter,” Jay Kenny, SVP of marketing at Alarm.com, said in a statement. "In addition to intrusion detection, automation and mobile app control, Smart Home Security gives homeowners real solutions for a wide range of potential threats, including fire, carbon monoxide, and costly water damage caused by leaks.”
The company explained that, in the event of a water leak, a connected water sensor will signal the Alarm.com platform through a dedicated cellular connection. The homeowner is then notified about the leak via text or push notification, and the Alarm.com system will automatically activate the automated water shut off valve—the newest connected device offered by the company.
According to ACE Private Risk Services data cited by Alarm.com, water leaks account for 23 percent of homeowner property loss annually and are a major factor in unexpected home repair costs.
