Emotiva Audio Corp. parent Jade Design announced the completion of its acquisition of high-performance audio component company Sherbourn Technologies.
“It was a natural move for us to make,” Jade Design president Dan Laufman said. “Sherbourn is a healthy company and is already in the market we wanted to get into” with the Emotiva Professional Systems label, unveiled at this fall’s CEDIA Expo with the intent of serving CI market needs.
Jade, a technical, engineering development and sourcing company that has for 15 years developed products for the custom installation, consumer electronics, professional and commercial audio fields, has counted Sherbourn among its clients for development of some of its processors and receivers.
Laufman said the acquisition would entail a shift in the positioning of Jade’s Emotiva Pro label. “Emotiva Pro will now be re-channeled for the professional side,” he said, while Sherbourn’s product portfolio will mainly serve the custom installation channel. When Emotiva Pro debuted in a soft launch at CEDIA Expo, “a focus was on Control4 as an integral part of the label,” explained Laufman. At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, the Sherbourn label will now represent Jade Design in the Control4 pavilion, he said.
The acquisition brings Sherbourn’s network of 400 active dealers under the Jade umbrella, said Laufman. Sherbourn’s physical operation will move to Jade’s headquarters in Franklin, Tenn., by the first of the year, and all sales and tech personnel will also transition with the company to Tennessee. Sherbourn president Ron Fone will stay with the company as director of sales but will remain in Massachusetts.
The Sherbourn lineup currently includes stereo and multi-channel preamp/processor/tuners and amplifiers. But the plan for future includes “rapidly enhancing their product offerings,” said Laufman, “and, over the course of the next 12 months, to offer within the brand an end-to-end product solution from Blu-ray, to Compact Disc, to media servers, all the way to loudspeaker systems. We are planning to do a line of architectural high-performance in-wall cinema speakers and subwoofers – not plastic-molded background-music speakers – as well as freestanding in-room loudspeakers and subwoofers with the focus on home cinema.
