Selling Luxury at CEDIA Expo 2012
If you sell luxury electronic custom integration products, then CEDIA’s 2012 Expo was brimming with manufacturers showcasing the latest and best to increase your bottom line.
The Future Technology Pavilion was a great place to catch a glimpse of your luxury sales future. Set up and configured like a house, and with four main areas representing health, work, eat and play, this year’s Technology Pavilion was designed to show the functionality of the intuitive home as it interacts and reacts to the homeowner’s needs.
Featured manufacturers involved with the pavilion included Access Networks, Savant Systems, Grandcare Systems, Honeywell, Lutron, Nest, Monster, Sharp and Symbol Logic. As for the technologies covered, they ranged from near field communication (NFC) and telepresence to aging in place, voice activation, gesture control and access control (with a focus on those with special needs).
While the entire Technology Pavilion was insightful in terms of how we’ll be living in a few short years, there was one area that was truly remarkable and captured the real “wow” factor: The theater/media room of the future.
With three Stewart screens, Digital Projection projectors, Savant control, Audio Design Associates, Kaleidescape, Auralex Acoustics, Triad Loudspeakers and Purdue University supplied some of the immersive content.
“The Future Tech Pavilion’s Theater demonstrated a today-and-tomorrow imaging approach,” said DPI’s Michael Bridwell. Enlisting a Digital Projection dVision 35-1080p 3D projector and custom Stewart Luxus Screenwall screen combo, Blu-ray movie content was shown in the traditional single projector-single screen setup. The demo then displayed how powerful an experience it is when an audience is fully immersed in imagery. Two more Digital Projection dVision 35-1080p 3D projectors and Stewart Luxus screens sparked to life, revealing a massive 360” wide by 67” tall continuous image. The awe-inspiring video imagery captivated wave after wave of attendees throughout the three-day custom electronics event.
