Screen Research, JBL Hope for Hit Showings at Cannes
Filmmakers and film critics alike are among the highest order of exacting video and audio buffs, so it’s no surprise that projection screen manufacturer Screen Research and JBL want to crow a bit over their selections as Official Providers for the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival, which this year runs from May 16 to 27 in the south of France.
Screen Research’s ClearPix2 screens will be used as the reference in all four of the digital projection screening rooms at Cannes, and also will be found at the Short Film Corner, a three-room area that promotes short films.
“It is a great honor indeed to have our ClearPix2 screens chosen by the Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes,” said Screen Research CEO and Founder Yves Trelohan. “This is the leading film event in the world with all of the industry’s most distinguished performers, directors and producers. We are proud of our products and how beautifully they perform in their digital screening rooms.”
In the first digital projection room, the vendor will provide a 224-inch by 95.3-inch 2.35:1 picture to 76 seats; in the second, it will provide a 160-inch by 90-inch 16:9 picture to 45 seats; in the the third, it will provide a 100-inch by 56.2-inch 16:9 picture to 45 seats; and in the fourth, it wil provide a 100-inch by 56.2-inch 16:9 picture to 36 seats. In the Short Film Corner rooms , it will provide 80-inch by 45-inch 16:9 pictures.
The French manufacturer is represented by StJohn Group in North America.
Screen Research won’t be the only custom vendor on hand at Cannes. JBL said four complete JBL Synthesis Atlas multichannel audio systems will be used in custom-built theater installations at the festival. The systems, the largest-scale JBL Synthesis installations ever to be used at Cannes, will be employed in one 76-seat, one 25-seat and two 40-seat theaters to be specially built at the Hotel Gray d’Albion. For the fourth year in a row, JBL systems have been chosen by the Marché du Film international film market, which is part of the festival organization.
