Samsung has built on its lead in LCD market share in the United States, taking on 23.6 percent of the market in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to new data from IHS iSuppli.
Samsung led by more than 8 percent over second-place Vizio (15.4 percent); they were followed by LG (12.4 percent), Sony (8 percent) and Toshiba (7.8 percent.) Samsung led Vizio 18.9 percent to 12.7 percent in the third quarter.
“Samsung triumphed in the price war that raged in the U.S. LCD market in the fourth quarter of 2011,” Tom Morrod, senior analyst and head of TV Technology for IHS, said in a statement. “The company was able to offer a range of price-competitive sets with a rich choice of features that U.S. consumers wanted. This allowed the company to outperform the competition during the all-important holiday selling season.”
