RTI Celebrates 20 Years!
CustomRetailer wanted to help RTI celebrate 20 years of a job well done. So along with two of his dealers, we asked Pete Baker, RTI’s VP of sales and marketing, to comment on the company, its products and its legacy.
Commented Baker, “The control and automation industry has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. Back when RTI was founded, there were very few options for touchpanel control devices, and pretty much all of them required a software engineer for programming. Now RTI has a complete line of touchscreen control solutions that can be easily programmed through a drag-and-drop environment with our award-winning Integration Designer programming software.
Dealers don’t have to be armed with an engineering degree to program our devices; we will train them through our Advanced Control University (ACU), either on-site or online in a one-day seminar. Continuing education is also available for the enthusiastic scholar to learn more advanced programming techniques.
“Control devices have also become much more sophisticated over the years. Now they can offer powerful capabilities such as time-based and IP control, and provide bi-directional communication with third party systems, allowing for two-way feedback with music servers, HVAC systems and more. In addition, consumers’ perceptions of control devices have changed. In the past, professional control interfaces were often viewed as expensive “clickers,” but now are widely accepted as a necessity in making the system comfortable to operate. In fact, in most consumers’ minds, the control device is the system.
“And as the industry has changed, RTI has also evolved significantly with it. We’ve gone from offering one home theater remote control and a handful of accessories to offering a full line of award-winning control devices, software, applications and distributed audio solutions, with distributed video soon to be added to the product portfolio. Over the last 20 years, RTI has grown to become a respected, world-class control system manufacturer. And we’re only getting started, so stay tuned.”
