Pioneer unveils MQA-ready portable digital audio player
Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology is a new form of audio technology developed by Bob Stuart, founder of U.K.-based Meridian Audio. Using scientific research into how people hear, Stuart developed this form of audio that is designed to “bring the listener as close as possible to the artist’s original performance.”
That technology made its consumer debut at IFA 2015 this week. Pioneer’s XDP-100R Digital Audio Player became the first device to launch with MQA support. Supported audio files are not publicly available yet, but once they are, the company said, a free update to the MQA-ready device will give users access to the tech.
“We are delighted to be on board with Pioneer and more excited than ever at the prospect of sharing MQA’s incredible audio performance with music fans everywhere,” Stuart said in a statement.
