Pioneer, Onkyo portable players now support MQA
The emerging MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) hi-res audio standard took a step forward today with the news that portable digital audio players from Pioneer and Onkyo now support it. The devices are the Pioneer XDP-100R ($699.99 MSRP) and the Onkyo DP-X1 ($899.99 MSRP).
Existing users of the devices can download the latest version of their apps to gain the MQA function.
MQA captures and delivers master-quality audio in a file that’s small enough to stream or download. Downloadable content remains scarce, and TIDAL is so far the only streaming service that is said to be working on offering MQA service.
