Pioneer Details Home Audio,App Radio, Sale News
Pioneer began their press conference Wednesday at CE Week by directly addressing the elephant in the room.
Russ Johnston, Pioneer's executive vice president of marketing and corporate communications, opened the press conference by addressing the reports yesterday of a complicated transaction that had Onkyo and Hong Kong private equity concern Baring Private Equity Asia purchasing an interest in Pioneer.
Johnston admitted that he could not say much about the news, except to promise that "we are going to continue to sell products under our own name."
The rest of the presentation was about products, including new offerings in two categories, home audio and in-car audio.
The home audio releases, announced by the company earlier this week, were introduced by product manager Chris Walker. They included the first Pioneer products to feature the new Dolby Atmos standard. They unveiled the Atmos-enabled Elite speaker system, which includes the SP-EBS73-LR bookshelf, SP-EC73 center channel, SP-EFS73 floorstanding speakers and SW-E10 subwoofer.
Also newly unveiled by Pioneer were the SC-85, SC-87 and SC-89 9.2-channel audio video receivers, all of which are Atmos-upgradeable. All of the products were designed by longtime Pioneer designer Andrew Jones.
Also at the press conference, Pioneer's Ted Cardenas introduced AppRadioLIVE, a new upgrade to the Pioneer AppRadio system announced three years earlier. The app aggregates content, including news, music, events, traffic and more, integrated into a single user interface.
