Phone Maker Clarity’s Service for the Aging-in-Place Generation
Telephone maker Clarity, the arm of Plantronics that supplies product lines geared to seniors, has launched what it calls a first-of-its-kind free service that enables its customer reps to remotely access and optimize certain of its Clarity amplified telephones for their owners.
The patented technology, ClarityLogic 1.0, is currently supported on two of the company’s models, the XL40D and XL45 amplified phones. The phone owner dials an 800 number and is connected to a customer service person at the same time a data message is uploaded to a secure web site that is accessible to the customer service rep. Information relayed to the rep allows him or her to make adjustments to the phone without the senior needing to be involved in the process. Tasks that can be accomplished by the remote-located rep include adjustment of the phone’s volume levels, tone adjustment, phonebook programming and speed-dial customization.
Both phone models are currently widely available and carry suggested retail prices of $139.95 and $149.95, respectively.
The company said that it is planning to launch a followup technology, ClarityLogic 2.0, that will give caregivers a way to access and adjust these phones remotely; later versions, according to the announcement, will be able to provide seniors with medication reminders, and home monitoring and emergency assistance services.
