Philips UHD Blu-ray Players Get a Dolby Vision Upgrade
Philips UHD Blu-ray players are getting Dolby Vision HDR software update for two currently available models.
The Philips BDP7502 and BDP7302 play back content at four times the resolution of current Blu-ray players for a stunningly detailed image. Both players support generic HDR, also known as HDR10, and now with Dolby Vision enabled they take HDR to a new level with improvements in brightness, color, contrast, detail, and dimensionality.
Dolby's HDR innovation that powers the most advanced cinemas around the world, Dolby Vision transforms entertainment experiences by delivering greater brightness, contrast, and detail retention, as well as a fuller palette of rich colors. Dolby's deep expertise in bringing advanced technologies from the cinema to the home and on the go has led to distinct features that enable Dolby Vision to deliver extraordinary viewing experiences to consumers using Philips UHD Blu-ray players and TVs.
"HDR is a significant advancement in picture technology that delivers tangible improvements in image quality, but Dolby Vision goes further and transforms an HDR picture into something that is truly stunning," said Peter Swinkels, General Manager, Product Planning, P&F USA, Inc., the exclusive North American license partner for Philips consumer televisions and home video products. "Dolby Vision is not just greater dynamic range and wider color gamut; it is also smarter pixels that deliver the best possible viewing experience for consumers."
The Philips BDP7502 and BDP7302 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players offer built-in HEVC and VP9 decoders for wirelessly streaming Netflix, which supports Dolby Vision, and YouTube 4K content. They also feature 4K upscaling for non-4K sources. For the best possible sound, both offer both Dolby Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio. Connections include HDMI 2.0a HDR video output and 1.4a audio output to maintain compatibility with legacy AVRs, Wireless LAN 802.11ac, Ethernet and USB Multimedia.
From content creation to distribution and playback, Dolby Vision is an end-to-end solution delivering a consistent experience across a range of content and devices. Dolby Vision is supported by leading Hollywood directors, major studios and distributors, and OEMs worldwide. To date, there are more than 200 movie titles and more than 200 hours of episodic content available in Dolby Vision globally across OTT streaming and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs.
