Ossia to create an IoT hub for all Cota enabled devices
Wireless solutions provider, Ossia, has announced a major development for the company’s Cota remote wireless power system: the ability to carry device-related data through the Cota power transmitter to cloud-based applications or to enable IoT devices to interact with each other directly.
The patents-pending innovation addresses the need for a standardized networking technology allowing devices to communicate with one another and the cloud. It also addresses the need for a developed ability to supply remote wireless power to increasingly complex devices limited by both battery reliance and the footprint of these batteries.
"Until a common IoT language emerges, it remains unclear how connected items — wearables, smart appliances, home automation and more — will communicate," Hatem Zeine, founder and CEO of Ossia and inventor of the Cota technology, said in a statement. "Defining this standard is the first step to bringing the IoT to life. Without the ability to power and connect these devices, the true potential of an intelligent network of things may never be fully realized.
Cota's artificial intelligence-enabled platform alongside its transmitter's functionality as a data aggregator and processor permits the Cota system to transform into an IoT hub. This allows all of the things comprising the IoT to stay charged and to work in tandem.
Technology manufacturers can design Cota-enabled receivers and products using ubiquitous Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ZigBee standards. For device-makers, this means IoT connectivity and wireless power without the need for additional antennas and components. Minor tweaks to a device's circuitry and firmware are needed to support Cota. Third parties will be able to rapidly develop Cota-enabled IoT systems using machine learning APIs and development kits.
"Cota's IoT platform facilitates IoT at multiple levels," Fady El-Rukby, vice president of Software Solutions at Ossia, said in a statement. "Cota enables the design of more intelligent IoT devices that are always charged, and always connected to the cloud. Cota supplies the connectivity, data capturing and data aggregation required. And Cota leverages artificial intelligence and the cloud to process the data, enabling intelligent behavior across the IoT."
