OLED Revenues Seen Rising
The fledgling Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes (AMOLED) category will enjoy much growth in the coming years, multiplying nearly sixfold in the next six years. That's according to numbers released last week by research firm DisplaySearch, which predicted that the technology will soon overcome its cousin, Passive Matrix (PMOLED).
The revenues from AMOLED are seen jumping from under $600 million last year to over $6 billion in 2015.
“Going forward, it will be important for OLEDs to find a niche market where it will be difficult for LCDs for compete, such as flexible or transparent displays, or lighting," DisplaySearch's Director of Display Technologies, Dr. Jennifer Colegrove, said as part of the announcement. "OLED developers should also look for opportunities to combine their technology with other hot technologies, such as touch screens.”
