Niveus Doubles Server Capabilities, Offers Simplified Media Centers
Niveus Media CEO Tim Cutting said at CEDIA Expo that the numerous new market entries from his company would provide integrators double the power, processing capability, number-of-zones reach and media storage capacity while at the same time offering them some of the trimmed-feature Media Center product choices they say they want for certain applications.
Among the announcements Cutting made were the introduction of the Movie Library 1.5 content management tool – what he termed “the ultimate movie server. Our goal is to supply dealers with the full arsenal to go after the movie server category.” It features disc-in-drive support; a 10-foot interface for backing up movies to the Niveus Media Server; and expanded metadata with high-resolution cover art capability to handle Blu-ray content.
He said that it complements the company’s Cargo Edition storage server, expandable up to 16TB, which is powered by Windows Home Server.
Also, Cutting said the company is offering support of up to eight CableCARD tuners and 10 Media Center Extenders in select media servers.
“To approach the movie/music server category, dealers wanted simplification – ways to trim off sections of Media Center they didn’t need – to bring it down to the functionality they chose to expose. Other dealers are focused on providing the ‘ultimate’ TV server. We can provide answers for both,” he said.
From the server side, he said, Niveus is “pushing the envelope” in the number of zones. He added that the company is also “beefing up power in all our servers,” doubling it, in some cases.
The company’s flagship Media Center, the Denali Limited Edition, has been overhauled. It offers Niveus Pro Audio circuitry and high-fidelity 7.1-channel analog and digital surround sound, 2TB of storage, a 32GB solid-state drive and support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio. It will be available Oct. 1 at $13,500.
