CEDIA View: CEDIA Crosspoint Launches
As the premier trade organization in the residential electronic systems industry, CEDIA has long focused its efforts on one goal: being a core component of its members’ prosperity. The association’s strategic plan is centered on this statement, which drives efforts from the top-tier education provided by CEDIA University to the industry’s main event—CEDIA EXPO—to a vast wealth of day-to-day member benefits.
In 2006, the CEDIA Board of Directors saw the opportunity to create a new member benefit that would have the potential to drive members’ prosperity and the industry’s vision at a fundamental level. This new initiative, the CEDIA Technology Council, would gather and distill valuable information about current and future trends in technology specific to the electronic systems industry. The Technology Council would make its findings easily accessible to members and establish CEDIA as the leading authority on residential electronic systems.
The plan for CEDIA’s Technology Council included the development of a community-based Web portal that would serve as the Technology Council’s premier catalyst for information-sharing among CEDIA members. In 2008, this Web portal—CEDIA Crosspoint—was established as a meeting place where both common and obscure discoveries, indicators of future technologies, industry trends and projections, and installation and design techniques are made available and openly discussed.
What is Crosspoint?
CEDIA Crosspoint enables the sharing of knowledge and ideas through various media types. Through content that includes a wiki, blogs, forums, survey polls and an audio/video library, Crosspoint aims to provide a one-stop solution for members’ technology inquiries, allowing participants to prepare for changes and opportunities created by technology.
Who can participate?
Crosspoint is exclusively available to CEDIA Members. Content and dialogue is provided by leadership, volunteers, electronic systems designers and technicians, and manufacturers. The more CEDIA Members participate via creating and commenting on content, the more resourceful Crosspoint becomes.
