Myth Busting: Busting 3 Myths, One Truth at a Time
If you’ve held off on entering your products in CEDIA’s Electronic Lifestyles Awards competition because you think the deck is stacked against you, it may be time to take another look.
With the competition underway (ESCs-- your deadline is May 4, manufacturers—your deadline is June 1), it’s time to bust a few myths that have surrounded the awards program.
Myth: The same companies win every year.
Truth: In the past five years 104 companies have received over 240 designer awards and 40 different manufacturers have won Manufacturers’ Excellence Awards, with dozens more named as finalists.
Myth: It’s political; the awards go to the same companies every year.
Truth: The judges are not aware of who submitted entries. All identifiable information is removed from each entry prior to the judging process. The judging panel is also completely anonymous, and judges are frequently rotated off the panel, keeping the perspective fresh and the judging fair. Everyone gets a fair, even playing field…so why not give it a shot?
Myth: It’s not worth my time.
Busted: Awards not only demonstrate to clients, both current and prospective, that your work is respected among your peers and is technically sound, but also build company morale among your employees. CEDIA uses award-winning projects year-round in pitching stories to media, both trade and consumer.
Plus, it gives you industry recognition among your peers. Whether it is at CEDIA EXPO 2012’s Awards Celebration or through the “How They Did It” features in the Five-Minute Download e-newsletter, your winning entry has the legs to make you an industry leader.
