At ISE 2019, MartinLogan has launched a redesigned Installer custom installation speakers, including two ultra-compact in-ceiling speakers with 3.5-inch woofers. The nine-model series has five in-ceiling and two in-wall models designed for indoor use and two in-ceiling models designed for all-weather applications. The series ships in March.
Appointments on the speakers include titanium-dome tweeters and mineral-filled polypropylene drivers. Their design is capped with magnetized, paintable, micro-perf, bezel-free grilles for a discreet aesthetic in a ceiling or wall. Each model comes with a mounting-lock system that couples the speaker’s vibration-resistant ABS chassis securely to walls and ceilings.
The IC3 and IC3-AW in-ceiling speakers each feature 3.5-inch woofers. A woofer surround on the IC3, molded directly onto the speaker’s chassis, essentially turns the speaker enclosure into the woofer basket, maximizing woofer size and performance while keeping the speaker footprint small.
Crossovers on the all-weather IC8-AW and IC3-AW have conformal coatings to maximize water-resistant properties, and all driver attachment points on the face of the speakers are sealed against moisture penetration. The grilles are also specially coated against extended periods of exposure to moisture.
The series’ Ferrofluid-damped and -cooled titanium-dome tweeters produce smooth high-frequency performance, says the company, and mineral-filled polypropylene cone bass/midrange drivers feature computer-optimized ferrite magnets and high-power motor structures to improve detail and provide clean, extended bass response.
IC8, IC6 and IC3 in-ceiling speakers, the IC6-ST in-ceiling speaker designed for stereo sound from a single speaker, and the IC6-HT in-ceiling speaker – designed specifically for home theaters with a special baffle, and a woofer and tweeter mounted at a 30-degree angle to direct sound toward the listening area – round out the line.
