Lutron Caséta Now Supports Apple HomeKit
Lutron reports that its new Caséta Wireless Smart Bridge supports Apple's HomeKit. A Caséta Wireless Lighting Starter Kit is now available at the Apple Store, as well as online from Amazon, Home Depot and Lowe’s.
This development means that homeowners can now control Caséta Wireless dimmers in specific rooms or areas using Siri. Yes, it’s a simple as telling Siri to “turn the lights off” or asking her if the kitchen lights are on.
Caséta Wireless also controls Lutron’s Serena remote-controlled shades and selected thermostats.
Caséta Wireless can be set to recognize a user’s location automatically. Using geofencing, lights can automatically be turned on as the user approaches his or her home.
The Caséta Wireless Lighting Starter Kit runs for $229.95. It includes one Caséta Wireless Smart Bridge, two Caséta Wireless dimmers (compatible with dimmable LED, halogen, and incandescent bulbs), two remotes and two pedestals. To add more lights, there are $59.95 Caséta Wireless dimmer/remote kits.
While the product is clearly meant to appeal to the DIY crowd, Lutron Director of Product Management Matt Swatsky says it can be an attractive option for installers who would like to install lighting control in a single room, like a home theater, as opposed to installing a full-blown RadioRA 2 system, for example.
