LG Enhances webOS Platform in 2015 TV Lineup
LG Electronics will offer an enhanced version of its webOS platform beginning with new models it will introduce at the 2015 International CES. The platform was introduced to offer LG Smart TV viewers simplified connection, content discovery and source switching.
LG’s webOS 2.0 features a QuickStart+ feature that cuts the boot time for the TV by up to 60 percent, says LG; it also improves switchoff from the Smart TV home screen to YouTube by about 70 percent.
Also new in 2015 with webOS 2.0 is “My Channels,” an app that lets users customize their favorite live TV or set-top box channels on the webOS launcher bar – up to eight channels can be archived there – for greater convenience. Quick Settings lets viewers adjust their TV without interrupting the program they’re watching, and Input Picker allows connected devices to be recognized instantly for immediate use.
Through partnerships with major content providers, webOS TV owners can access a selection of Ultra HD content from streaming services such as Amazon Instant Video and Netflix.
