Legrand announced on Thursday that it has developed new software for its Nuvo Player Portfolio system that will make its multiroom wireless system less expensive and easier to install. The new software, version 3.0, eliminates the need for the system’s Gateway, enabling the P100, P200, and P300 wireless players to connect directly through a home’s existing WiFi router, Legrand explained.
A step-by-step setup wizard is included in the software that helps simplify installation, which is completed through the app. Additionally, users will have to download a free update to their iOS or Android app from the App Store or Google Play.
“Offering setup without the necessity of the Gateway has been a strong request from our custom integrators,” Fritz Werder, vice president and general manager of the company’s Nuvo and On-Q product lines, said in a statement. “By engaging the router directly and removing the need for the Gateway, we’ve been able to adapt the system to their installation needs while making the Player Portfolio even more affordable.”
According to Werder, the version 3.0 software supports direct communication between the Nuvo wireless player components and any WiFI alliance certified dual band router. The new software will have no effect on systems currently using the Gateway, he said, adding that a system can also operate with a combination of Gateway devices and devices connected wirelessly through a home router system.
The Nuvo Player Portfolio System, which is controlled from the Player Portfolio App, can accommodate up to 16 zones and supports direct streaming from a number of popular Internet radio services.
