Movie player and server manufacturer Kaleidescape has introduced the Kaleidescape Mobile App for home cinema, which provides owners of the company’s entertainment media management hardware and software a convenient – and direct – user interface for selecting and purchasing movies, and controlling the playback of feature films, concerts, and TV shows on their Kaleidescape system. The app, available for free from the Apple Store (there is a mobile app for Android phones in the works, says the company), includes an innovative “remote” that makes it fun and easy to control the onscreen display from a smartphone, without viewers ever having to take eyes off the big screen. The app also provides customers with timely information from Kaleidescape, such as movie recommendations.
Cheena Srinivasan, Kaleidescape founder and CEO points out that “Kaleidescape is known for its beautiful onscreen user interface. However, to use it, many of our customers interact with third-party control tablets that make it impossible to use some of the best features of our onscreen user interface. Kaleidescape designed our new mobile app to solve this problem by providing a control interface that is as elegant as our onscreen interface. The mobile app’s design was also influenced by the lack of a practical way to visit our movie store and buy movies with a smartphone. The Kaleidescape mobile app will continue to play a central role as we evolve Kaleidescape’s user interface, making it more intuitive and more entertaining.”
“Control systems, such as Crestron and Savant, play a vital role in luxury home cinema projects,” noted David Raife of Paragon Systems Integration, Aspen, Colo. “Most of our projects use iPads for control. Kaleidescape’s mobile app makes it easier for us to install and support a Kaleidescape system because it eliminates the need for us to implement the Kaleidescape control interface. We can simply link the control app to the new Kaleidescape app, which works great on an iPad.”
