Catching Up With... Jeremy Burkhardt: ‘Re-focus on Growth’
CustomRetailer: Jeremy, you are on the road meeting dealers non-stop these days, what's going on?
Burkhardt: I have just completed 80 days on the road, with my last appointment being a team event with Monster, D-Tools and Lutron called the "Power of Four." Spending time with our dealers makes both of us better. Inventing products and solutions at the factory is way less productive than inventing in a dealer's office.
CustomRetailer: Yes I was at the Irvine, Calif., Power of 4 event, it was an excellent experience. The four manufacturers brought in Tim Costello as a speaker. I've seen him a few times now and he can really drill down deep in our industry with his facts and figures.
Burkhardt: Yes, Tim is rad. He has really tweaked his program to address the needs of our industry. After Irvine, we want on to Jersey and Florida with more great turnouts. The roundtables and discussion are far more relevant and good sources of mining for education than just being lectured to. Participating, interactivity, learning, sharing information and ideas is what it's all about.
CustomRetailer: SpeakerCraft has always been the company that not only pushed the envelope, but tore it up and reinvented it, what are you doing to revitalize your dealers and help them sell?
Burkhardt: Just today, we came up with some great new designs. Being out on the road is the best way to get better at what we do. Most dealers are not open with manufacturers. I am lucky; I never played the aggressive sales card. Instead of selling, I find that the more I care and do for our partners, the better our relationship. This industry is small and you have to be honest and stick to your principles openly.
While the road has been my savior the last couple months, people with balance and family can't go do it. They have to circle back home every week. For me, going home makes me weak; I need to be out in the world listening. I am grateful our dealers always have an open place for me and want to share a meal.
