Industry Veteran Gary Altunian Passes at 59
It is with a heavy heart I bring you the sad news of the passing of industry veteran Gary Altunian. Gary succumbed to cancer after a lengthy battle on March 15. He was only 59.
Gary was at Yamaha for 15 years, as National Training Manager, and that's when we met. It was at Yamaha that I first became aware of his professionalism, huge knowledge and attention to detail. After he left Yamaha, about 9 years ago, he started reviewing components for me at Home Theater magazine, when I was the editor.
I could always, always count on Gary, to go that extra mile to get the best out of a product. He was my “in-wall guy”, as he had no problem installing in-walls, actually in sheetrock for a proper in-wall review (if he ever did think it was too much trouble, he never let me know).
His writing was a pleasure to read and edit. In recent years, I've seen him mainly at trade shows where we'd have a little chat and share industry news. He was a true professional and gentleman and the industry has lost one of its best. The entire CTPG team passes on their sincere condolences to his partner Marcia Walker.
Arrangements are pending; check back for more details.
