Industry Rep & Sales Executive Robert Dorrance Passes
Robert William Dorrance, 61, a 40-year CE industry veteran and West Virginia native whose career spanned A/V retailing, as well as stints as a manufacturer’s representative and then as Regional Sales Manager for the B&W Group, died on Dec. 18th.
Over his career, he represented various notable brands in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Western Pennsylvania.
In 1978, he founded and owned A/V specialty store The Audio Center, in Bowling Green, Ky., which he ran for 11 years.
From 1990 through 1998, he held the position of Sales Manager and Vice President for the independent rep firm Cardinal Sales, and later in 1998, founded his own A/V rep firm, Dorrance Audio Marketing, which focused on high-performance home theater products. In that segment of his career, he garnered numerous awards from manufacturers including Proceed, B&W, Stewart Filmscreen, Runco, Russound, D-Box, and United Leather.
In 2014 he was named to the B&W Group post after repping the brand for many years.
Doug Henderson, former president of The B&W Group, said, “I had the privilege to work with Bob for many years… A consummate professional, Bob was above all else a wonderful human being. He is sorely missed by everyone that was lucky enough to call him a friend.”
Survivors include his wife, Beverly, two sisters, Kathy (Dave) Rinehart of Columbus, Ohio and Janet Thompson of Bowling Green, and two nieces.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5 from 2:00‑4:00 p.m. at JC Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel in Bowling Green. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Humane Society of Bowling Green.
