CEDIA View: How CEDIA Members Integrate
Every installation can have its challenges—whether it’s troubleshooting HDMI or programming a mobile device for the user interface. Large systems—and systems that include outdoor integration—can present a whole new range of obstacles and special considerations.
Learn how this Electronic Lifestyles Award Winner worked with the client to deliver a well-balanced integration solution.
The homeowner had an ambitious vision when they contacted Elytronic to begin implementing an easy and efficient control solution for their Cyprus home—a spacious abode with four floors, 3,280 square feet, and a huge outdoor and garden area.
The homeowner needed a fully automated home that could be controlled though touchscreens and remotes. They wanted to integrate as many systems as possible, including lighting and shading, HVAC, distributed audio and HD video, intercom communications, water heater (including the outdoor pool), and CCTV security surveillance of gates and doors.
Home Control System: Multiple occupancy sensors were installed around the house, and in some rooms, to ensure that no energy or money was being wasted by forgetting to switch the lights off. The sensors also help guests find their way around the house, even if they haven’t used such systems before.
The touchpanels and iPads have a special graphical interface that allows the user to control and monitor the house using floor plan views. The control system provides integrated management over multiple functions inside and outside the house.
Lutron and AMX systems were used to control a variety of functions including some of the swimming pool effects, such as a mist generator, a wave generator and waterfalls.
Home Video System: The client was very clear that everyone has different tastes when it comes to TV shows and movies. As a result, Elytronic opted for Blu-ray players and media players that would serve all TVs in the house through a high-definition 8x8 video matrix that provides speed and reliability. That was especially important, as all the various media players were networked to the home’s TVs.
Elytronic placed local players in each bedroom, thereby giving everyone in the home the choice of watching whatever they pleased. (A similar solution was provided for the satellite service.)
Elytronic also designed and installed a home theater room in the attic, where family and friends can watch movies in full HD or 3D video.
