IK Multimedia has released the iLoud MTM compact reference monitor aimed at home and pro studio use for near-field monitoring applications.
The monitors are said to offer an ultra-flat frequency response and a truly linear phase response - premiere features that the company says are unusual in its price segment - $349.99 each or $699.99 per pair, and in a form factor that fits on a desktop.
Building upon IK’s iLoud Micro Monitors, iLoud MTM offers 100W RMS power, a 103dB SPL specification, and a 40 Hz to 24 kHz frequency response. The symmetrical MTM design provides point-source performance for better imaging even at close distances, so users can create mixes that will translate across multiple playback systems without ear fatigue.
iLoud MTM also offers self-calibration derived from IK’s ARC System, with an included reference microphone to adjust to any room’s acoustics.
The speaker is said by the company to use advanced DSP techniques to provide total control of the speaker’s performance; highs are neutral and defined; mids and lows are clear and balanced. Further, iLoud MTM uses audiophile-grade, high-resolution algorithms and A/D converters to manage crossovers, filtering, time alignment, equalization, dynamics control and auto-calibration. DSP-controlled and precision time-aligned, iLoud MTM also manages the off-axis response to minimize the effects of room reverberation.
The monitor also embodies IK’s new patent-pending Physical Response Linearization (PRL) system that uses a precise model of the enclosure’s design, construction and materials, combined with electro-mechanical measurements of the real units, to correct the system’s performance in real time.
The monitor’s midrange-tweeter-midrange symmetrical design uses a pair of 3.5-inch high-performance woofers and one one-inch high-definition tweeter, for precisely defined point-source sound that the company says can’t be achieved by traditional two-way systems at close distances.
iLoud MTM monitors provide one-touch acoustic auto-calibration with the company’s included ARC microphone, to easily adjust the frequency response to their positioning. Also offered are a low-frequency extension control and low- and high-frequency trim controls to adjust the response to suit individual tastes.
iLoud MTM monitors include a tilting mount for correct positioning in a wide range of setups, as well as a rubber base for horizontal shelf-placement and a bottom thread for mic stand mounting.
