iHome’s SmartPlug now connects with Wink and Nest devices
iHome has announced the first major update to its iHome Control iSP5 SmartPlug, making it compatible with Wink and Nest devices in addition to its already established compatibility with iOS and Android. The “Works with Wink” compatibility allows the iSP5 to be integrated with hundreds of Wink-compatible devices allowing it to work with Shortcuts and Robots in the Wink app. It can also use its connection with the Nest Learning Thermostat to turn the SmartPlug on when users are home and off when they’re not.
The iHome iSP5 SmartPlug can set schedules and remotely control holiday lighting and gadgets, as well everyday household items such as lamps, portable heaters, fans and other small appliances under 1800W through the iHome Control app. The app can create custom scenes to control numerous SmartPlugs or use Siri voice commands to control devices. The slim design of the iHome iSP5 SmartPlug allows the other plug to remain open for use or allows the installation of two SmartPlugs in one standard wall outlet. Upgrades occur through automatic firmware updates.
“Since the launch of the iHome Control SmartPlug this past summer, we’ve provided an extremely high level of support and enhancements to the product and platform,” Gary Schultz, Director of Business and Product Development, said in a statement. “With the additions of the Wink and Nest integrations, our SmartPlug can now act even more intelligently to help people in their homes.”
In addition to Wink and Nest connections, the update is also meant to improve performance and counter bug and stability issues encountered by a small group of early adoptors. The iHome Control iSP5 SmartPlug is now available for $39.99 and is the first in a planned series of products from the new iHome Control line of smart home accessories.
