With CEDIA just a few weeks out, Honeywell is bringing a big portfolio dedicated to the home technology market.
Out the gate, their Lyric platform will be on display, showing dealers the power of their "end-to-end connected home solution." The lineup is backboned by the Lyrics controller, a traditional wall-mounted install, or the Lyrics Gateway that is unmounted and can be placed almost anywhere. The Lyric platform has received a few quality of life updates that have really made it competitive including Google Home support, a handful of SiX Two-Way wireless products, and 3G digital communicators. Everything from thermostats to water leak detectors
Everything from thermostats to water leak detectors play nice with Honeywell - including the T Series Thermostats and Water Leak/Freeze Detectors on display this year. Updates and product options to the Lyric platform alone should help keep Honeywell relevant in an oversaturated DIY market.
Honeywell is also showcasing the Total Connect HD cameras that offer an easy to use software, baked in an otherwise foundational camera. What the line of security cameras may lack in advanced technology, it makes for an excellent introduction to customers interested in a simplified home security solution.
Lastly, Honeywell is bringing their SkyBell, an HD video doorbell that can remotely control from their Total Connect iOS app. SkyBell sports a 1080p integrates with Alexa, IFTTT and Google's Nest. The third-generation doorbell also has clip storage for motion capture and has an above average mobile interface for a small price.
For better or for worse, the market for connected home changes almost every day, and competitors like Honeywell aren't making it any easier for newcomers. Honeywell seems to have positioned themselves to attract first-time homeowners who are interested in connected home solutions by offering a portfolio of otherwise unintimidating tech. Their showing at CEDIA is certainly one that will impress, but their long-term goals seem to be the most interesting part of their portfolio.
