With HomeAdvisor, Alexa Can Schedule Your Next Home Improvement
- Alexa integration uses Instant Connect, expert calls you in "about 90 seconds"
- Curates professionals, checks background, current licenses
- InstantBooking shows their availability in iCalander, Google Calander
Hey Alexa, can HomeAdvisor find me a plumber? How about an architect? A roofer?
If you are anything like me, looking for a professional means blowing up social media, cross-referencing three different search engine ratings and prematurely scheduling vacation days around inevitable calendar conflicts.
Okay, maybe you aren't, but that doesn't take away any of the value that HomeAdvisor puts into the palm of your hands, for free.
Thier collection of curated professionals covers a wide variety, 500 and counting, of hyper-specific tasks. Trash removal, TV wall mounting, gazebo installation - they want to be your one-stop shop for all things home improvement.
For example, you need a new closet added to a room in your house. A dynamic search of the word "closet" on their website will produce scenarios like "Build a new closet" to "Organize my closet." A few quick queries of what you want in the final product (e.g. clothing rods, mirrors, shelves) and some necessary information will produce a list of nearby specialists.
Thier mobile, and Apple Watch, interface will also produce the same list of experts and Alexa can use their 'Instant Connect' to confirm if you want to call the top-rated expert for the job who will contact the user "within 90 seconds."
Each specialist has a rating based on previous customers and will hopefully direct you to an educated decision. HomeAdvisor also gives you a rough price point, based on past projects and shows their availability that can sync with Google Calander or Apple's iCalander booking immediately with your choice.
"It has always been a really challenging process. You have to go to a neighbor or a family member and ask them for a recommendation," Director of Business Development for HomeAdvisor Emily Sherman said. "And then you only have one recommendation, and you are basing a lot of money and a lot of time on that one recommendation."
HomeAdvisor will also check criminal records, current license, and financial checks - everything to make sure their network is as secure as possible.
"A smart thermostat can tell you that your HVAC is broken," Sherman said. "But now Alexa can tell you that your HVAC is broken and if you want to schedule a professional to fix it."
HomeAdvisor has a free to use interface but also offers a more comprehensive premium version, $25 a month, that sets you up with an expert to make sure all your major projects correlate with each other and will be negotiated at an agreeable price.
