Glikes: Get Out and Collaborate
Azione Unlimited founder Richard Glikes wrote this for the buying group's email newsletter. It is republished here with permission.
Listening to CNBC a speaker was talking about how businesses in the future will need to collaborate just as former rivals Apple and IBM are now working together, I thought about our industry and also
Azione Unlimited. Everyone is locked into their own little world. You already know what you know. Get outside and open your horizons to learn and improve. When dealers tell me that they aren’t going to our next conference or to CEDIA, I wonder about their long term thinking. CEDIA offers one a chance to see the newest gear, take classes to improve your business acumen or adopt a new skill, and most of all interact with others.
The same is true of Azione Unlimited conferences. We have roundtables where thoughts and perspectives are verbalized, provocative guest speakers stimulate our grey matter, vendor/dealer one- on-ones build prosperity, and great ideas are shared over cocktails and dinners. Why would one stay in their fox hole? Should we give everyone periscopes? The answer we hear is “we’re too busy”. Does that really mean you don’t have the proper infrastructure or that your org chart doesn’t account for how your business has changed? We can help you but you have to leave your office.
The most successful dealers and organizations are collaborating. Azione is working with IPro, the manufacturer representative group, CEDIA, and of course our dealers and vendors. Azione dealers are referring business to other members in markets they can’t serve due to logistics and sharing the revenue and expertise in the process. We’re working together to make each other stronger.
I had dinner with Don Dixon of Definitive Electronics last week and he told me he doesn’t take business from electricians but instead gives them business and referrals. In turn, he told me that they are his biggest source of new clients. Referrals are the number one driver of new business.
