GE Appliances Invests $200 Million, Creates 400 Jobs in Louisville
Responding to growing consumer demand for their products, GE Appliances, a Haier company, announced plans to invest more than $200 million to expand its dishwasher and laundry manufacturing facilities in Louisville, Kentucky. The expansion will result in the addition of 400 new jobs.
Specifically, the plan calls for major investments in GE Appliances’ Appliance park facility, the company’s largest manufacturing facility and headquarters located in Louisville. The laundry production facility expansion will allow GE Appliances to add a new topload washer, a dryer platform, and additional production capacity for existing models. Meanwhile, the laundry production expansion will enable the company to increase manufacturing capacity by nearly 20 percent.
Additionally, GE Appliances will expand the plant’s dishwasher production capabilities by 35 percent, allowing for the manufacturing of new plastic and stainless steel tub models.
“The investments we are making today continue our mission of creating product and production supersites where we can more efficiently channel our innovation and manufacturing expertise by product line,” Kevin Nolan, president and chief executive officer for GE Appliances, said in a statement. “This will greatly accelerate our ability to provide innovative new products that will delight consumers, expand our workforce and enhance our leadership in the major appliance industry.”
GE Appliances has provided a healthy economic boost to the Louisville community that it calls home. The company’s operations generate an annual Kentucky economic impact of $4.6 billion, while some 6,000 GE Appliances employees earn more than $515 million in salaries and benefits each year. The combined impact of the $200 million investment and the related new construction efforts will result in the creation of 13,500 jobs in Kentucky. Over the next five years, Appliance Park is expected to increase its economic impact by an additional $18 billion, GE Appliances said.
“GE Appliances has long been an exemplary corporate partner for Louisville and the Commonwealth,” Governor Matt Bevin said in the statement. “This iconic company has employed many thousands of Kentuckians for generations, and we are grateful for their most recent investment in the Bluegrass State. As GE Appliances continues to adapt to a changing marketplace, we are confident that they will remain a perfect fit right here in Kentucky—America’s center for engineering and manufacturing excellence.”
