Former Sharp President O. Perry Clay Passes
O. Perry Clay, former president of Sharp Electronics Corp. (SEC US), died on Oct. 2. He was 80.
Clay was hired by Sharp as a General Manager for the Home Appliance Division in 1984, and prior to that, worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 23 years.
At Sharp, he amassed a sales organization and leveraged the company’s microwave oven manufacturing operation in Memphis, Tenn., to make Sharp the Number One microwave oven brand in the U.S. for many years.Clay, who was the first local [non-Japanese] president of SEC, was at Sharp for 17 years, and retired in 2001. .
Clay is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne, and by a son and daughter.
