FIBBR will begin selling at the end of this month its new “plug and play” Crystal active fiber optic HDMI cable. It features the company’s proprietary BendRobust technology, which allows the cable to flex up to 180 degrees for ease of placement in tricky locations. Chameleon-like, it also blends unobtrusively into its environment by virtue of a transparent jacket, which houses several elements. Its design combines Data Display Channel (DDC) and Hot Plug Detection (HPD) signals in copper wire using the company’s TransFuture technology. Two microcontroller units manage the signals being transferred for faultless EDID and HDCP2.2 operation, says the company.
Crystal is able to carry uncompressed native 4K content at 18Gbps up to 50 meters (although that length is a special order, says the company) without loss or interference, delivering power direct from AC coupling with no need for power at the receiving end of the signal.
Since Crystal is single-directional, the ends are appropriately labeled and there is a SmartLED indicator on the Source connector to confirm the cable has been correctly installed. Its internal chip’s firmware is upgradable.
