Vendor View: enerG’s Home Awareness and Energy Management System
“We are trying to change the way integrators bring products to the end-user,” says enerG President Greg Brett. “Until now, recurring monthly revenue service (RMR) offerings were only available through security-based systems and maintenance contracts. We found a way to bring to market a range of offerings that customers want and create a RMR stream for the integrator in doing so. This is a complete solution where the integrator makes profit on the product, the installation and the services.”
With the channel showing signs of growth, steadily recovering from the economic downturn of 2008, there was a strong sentiment of confidence at the 2013 CEDIA Expo. And the buzz at the enerG booth played a part in this optimism. Headquartered in Burlington, Mass., enerG is a startup that tapped the Expo to make its world debut.
The company is betting that integrators will find its Home Awareness and Energy Management System to be the most tangible and profitable monthly service offering ever to hit the AV integration channel—and one that will positively change the way they do business, forever.
Simply put, enerG’s Home Awareness System grants homeowners the ability to control, customize and automate all connected devices and receive important system notifications on their Android and iOS devices. This is achieved through a wide range of Z-Wave devices that enerG offers integrators (from enerG, Building36, Evolve, Kwikset, Baldwin, Chamberlain LiftMaster and more) and Wi-Fi HD controllable cameras, all of which leverage a back-end Cloud-based system that the company hosts.
The capabilities of the enerG system span HVAC (Wi-Fi thermostat), lighting control, garage door access, keyless entry, wireless HD camera viewing and energy management. To expand their platform even further, enerG is working with additional manufacturers to bring more products into their eco-structure.
Homeowners manage the operation of their connected devices at the enerGhome.com portal. There they can monitor how much energy has been consumed by device and the whole house in both watts and dollars based on their specific utility provider. This allows them to set energy goals—and accordingly, make adjustments to improve consumption.
enerG’s mobile app mirrors the portal. For example, the homeowner can monitor energy usage, adjust thermostats and view video from the app, even opting to select and view multiple locations.
For even greater control, the enerG system uses Geo-Fencing technology which enables the homeowner to define rules or to adjust settings when designated people leave or approach the home (for example, automatically adjusting wireless HD Camera viewing or temperature). Cell phone triangulation technology triggers the settings.
