DTS Play-Fi: New products, services & partnerships
DTS recently announced several new brand partners who are building its DTS Play-Fi whole-home wireless audio ecosystem compatibility into their products, for a total of 30 audio products either available now or soon to be available in the market. DTS, which also markets the technology within its Phorus product brand, also announced an expansion of music services, and an enhanced user interface.
DTS Play-Fi technology provides the capability for listeners to stream high-quality lossless audio wirelessly from smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop PCs over an existing home Wi-Fi network to speakers throughout the home. The platform is also brand-agnostic, meaning various Play-Fi-endowed brands will work together.
The technology has been enhanced with a new feature – perfect lip-synchronization between the audio and visual components of streaming content from Microsoft Windows PCs, said Dannie Lau, general manager of Play-Fi at DTS.
Partnerships have resulted in introductions of the first DTS Play-Fi products from MartinLogan, McIntosh and Paradigm, new model offerings from Definitive Technology, Polk Audio and Wren, and the announcement of collaboration with the TIDAL High-Res Audio streaming service.
On the home automation front, DTS has partnered with Fusion Research to incorporate Play-Fi connectivity into the Fusion Play-Fi Server ($999) launching at CEDIA 2015. This server allows Play-Fi components to be integrated into and controlled by connected home systems, including Crestron, Control4, RTI and URC.
