Definitive to Release New SuperTowers in Fall
Definitive Technology will release in the fall the third generation of its SuperTower floorstanding speakers, along with matching center and bipolar surround speakers. The new towers will incorporate Class D amp design and digital signal processing.
The new nine-model range replaces 11 models, and includes two Class-D-design-powered center-channel speakers, one passive center, and two new bipolars.
The company said the new range has been redesigned and upgraded in appearance, functionality and performance.
The new towers use a new patent-pending technology called Forward Focused Bipolar Array, which Definitive said combines the imaging benefits of bipolar designs with the localization characteristics of traditional forward-radiating speakers. All of the models are equipped with new midrange and woofer drivers, tweeters, amplifiers and enclosure construction according to the company.
The series’ sleeker center-channel and surround speakers benefit from Definitive’s latest-generation Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) technology and also sport aluminum-dome tweeters.
Prices on the towers range from $1,499 for the 48 1/4-inch-tall BP-8080ST to $599 for the 35 7/8-inch-tall BP-8020ST. The top-line center channel Model CS-8080HD carries an MSRP of $999 and the bipolars are $349 for the 4 1/2-inch version and $249 for the 3 1/2-inch version.
All models will be available initially only to the U.S., Canadian and select Latin American markets, with European and Asian distribution to follow in 2011, said Definitive.
