In advance of tomorrow’s launch of the Microsoft Zune digital media platform, D&H Distributing said it will be a “major” authorized Zune distributor, carrying accessories from Microsoft and third parties.
The Microsoft accessories will include the Zune Dock, Sync Cable, Wireless Remote, Gear Bag, Car Charger and A/V accessories. Third-party products will include speakers, cases, FM transmitters, car adapters, armbands and battery extenders from manufacturers such as Griffin, Speck, Belkin, Logitech, Monster, Klipsch, Harman Kardon, Altec Lansing, Digital Lifestyle Outfitters and Targus.
D&H said the Zune platform is the latest building block of its “Digital Lifestyle” strategy, which it calls a “potentially lucrative approach to marketing consumer electronics.”
“The seamless connectivity of Zune makes it a new paradigm for digital music,” said Michael Schwab, vice president of purchasing for D&H. “It was conceived from the outset as an essential part of a larger, more sophisticated infrastructure. It’s our job to provide dealers with the most in-demand options for equipping that infrastructure, and Zune is generating a buzz in the market that we expect will translate to successful sales.”
D&H believes Zune is a “more complex, integrated system [that] requires additional expertise and savvy, but it can turn the typical home theater purchase into a larger sale of a high-end, turn-key digital media system.”
“We’ve been advocating a more broad-based approach to selling the Digital Home among our CE dealers and retailers, and Zune opens a whole new venue of opportunity for them,” said Schwab.
