The Consumer Technology Association launches Hi-Res Audio guide for expanding market
As the hi-res audio market continues to expand, the Consumer Technology Association announced the release of its brand new Hi-Res Audio guide for retailers. CTA said the new guide, developed in partnership with Sound & Vision, is designed to help those in the retail space get a better understanding of the growing market potential for HRA and demonstrate to consumers the improved sound quality of HRA.
"Hi-Res Audio offers a higher level of satisfaction by creating a greater emotional connection between the artist and the music enthusiast," Walt Zerbe, Legrand audio product manager for NUVO and On-Q product lines, said in a statement released by CTA. "Hi-Res audio enables consumers to hear the music the way the creators intended. While there is little doubt that Hi-Res is the best quality sound on the market, there is some confusion as to what makes audio truly Hi-Res. This guide will provide retailers with resources and recommendations to help them educate consumers about what they have been missing out on for so long."
CTA CEO Gary Shapiro said there has never been a better time for retailers to push hi-res audio. “Consumers now have a remarkable array of listening platforms to choose from, but many may feel they must sacrifice sound quality for accessibility,” he said in the statement. “Once consumers experience HRA and hear what they've been missing, they may never go back.”
In its 2015 study, “The Market for High-Resolution Audio,” CTA found that 37 percent of consumers—roughly 91 million U.S. adults—are interested in listening to hi-res audio. And as more consumers seek to improve their listening experience, HRA is emerging as a very positive trend for retailers, CTA said.
