Central Vacuum Systems
Tom Heidel, Marketing Manager, Central Vacuum Systems
PRESENTATION ADVICE: Central vacuum dealers need to realize that everyone else has finally caught up with what they already know—that central vacuum systems provide significant improvement in a home’s air quality. In the past year, the two largest and most prominent ‘green’ building programs have recognized central vacuums as being important to indoor air quality and ‘green’ building. The NAHB’s Green Building guidelines and the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program both allow credits for the installation of a central vacuum system in a ‘green’ home. There are not many ‘green’ building items that provide such a large credit and provide the features and benefits that a central vacuum system can provide.

PRODUCT/TECH TRENDS: We invest a great deal of resources into listening to consumers to guide our product development. Consumers want smart technology, so we introduced the Beam Serenity IQS Power Unit. Its LED display informs the user how efficiently the system is operating and when to check the collection bucket, as well as when to schedule service. They also want superior filtration to protect indoor air quality. So we include the permanent, self-cleaning CleanStream HEPA Filtration System. The homeowner never has to change a filter again. Consumers also want easier, quiet cleaning so we developed the Beam Q Power Team that has on-board cleaning tools and the quietest electric power brush that allows the user to manually adjust the brush height to deep clean carpet of any thickness.
THE MARKET: Green Building has created the most significant opportunity in our history. Installing a central vacuum system earns five points in the new National Green Building Standards. And helps a new home meet new LEED for Homes requirements. That’s because central vacuum systems can improve the indoor air quality of the home. Our clinical study that proved using a Beam Central Vacuum System improves allergy symptoms up to 61 percent was a major factor in the inclusion of central vacuum systems in the new standards.
