Coming Soon: True Home Theater
A California-based startup is planning to offer home theater owners a true home theater experience with first-run movies- at a steep price tag.
Prima Cinema, Inc., according to the Wall Street Journal, is planning to offer customers the chance to watch brand new movies at home- but doing so will cost them $20,000 for the system and $500 per film.
Best Buy's venture capital arm is a backer of the project, as is GE-owned movie studio Universal Pictures; the service is set to launch late next year. The niche service is seen as a potential expansion of the small circle of Hollywood power brokers who have traditionally received first-run movies for use in home screening rooms.
