Case Study: Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers & Crestron
Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, a chain of three sports bar-and-grills in the Phoenix area (with a fourth on the way), had an audio and video problem. Its challenge at its Chandler, Ariz., location was to gain the ability to control 44 television displays on the fly in an easy fashion, while also delivering kick-ass sound to four audio zones on the inside and the outdoor patio of the restaurant.
Like with most sports bars, a large reason people go to the 5,000-square-foot Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers locations has to do with enjoying their most anticipated games, including the monster attraction of DIRECTV Sunday Ticket. Hence, the need for a superior A/V solution to enhance the customer experience.
To meet the chain’s needs, restaurateur Barrett Rinzler turned to Scottsdale, Ariz., integration firm Clean Media AV, drawn by tales of the company’s successful implementations in other eateries and sports bars in the area.
Clean Media AV installed Crestron control to manage the entire system, which is programmed so that any staff member can easily switch channels or control the volume. To handle sound, Clean Media AV installed Crestron SAROS eight-inch surface mount speakers throughout. Tom Yario, Clean Media AV Director of Operations, said that staff can now control the AV system using either a 22-inch Crestron touch screen at the equipment rack or the restaurant’s iPad.
Now the managers and hosts can focus on serving food and drinks instead of wasting time worrying about changing channels or raising and lowering the volume.
“When there are this many TVs on in a place that’s as popular as this location, you want the staff to be able to control everything and for it to be as simple as possible,” says Dylan Vicha, Clean Media AV’s owner. “If there wasn’t a control system, someone would have to turn on all the TVs and choose the channel for every single one. The staff doesn’t have to worry about setting everything up or looking for a remote to open or close the restaurant every day. And you can train someone [on this system] in minutes.”
Crestron, for its part, even claims the restaurant is saving on utility costs due to the new system.
Clean Media has now installed such systems in all three of Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers’ locations, and is slated to do the same in the upcoming Scottsdale outlet. TI
