Coastal Source’s NYC Signature Series Event: A Proving Ground for its Robust Outdoor Lines
What could be a better way of showcasing outdoor speaker and lighting solutions than in the midst of an out-of-season snowstorm?
As luck (and the New York City weather) would have it, that was exactly the case on Nov. 15 – the day and evening that 15-year-old Florida-based Coastal Source – whose tagline, fittingly, is “Defying the Elements” – offered its dealer partners, their clients and media the opportunity to hear and see its outdoor audio speakers and lighting in action.
The venue was the five-story World of McIntosh Townhouse in Manhattan’s SoHo district, transformed for the day into the Coastal Source NYC Experience Center, and whose exterior top level was outfitted with snow-capped speakers and outdoor lighting in full performance mode.
“Our theme here,” said Coastal Source Preisdent Franco D’Ascanio, “is that an outdoor speaker doesn’t need to be compromised – either aesthetically, or in its sound quality.”
D’Ascanio brings a unique perspective to manufacturing in that he is also part of D’Asign Source, a turnkey design-build family business specializing in waterfront estate properties. Working in the Florida Keys and battling the corrosive elements of UV radiation, humidity and sand blasts spurred the firm to begin designing its own products with a build quality to better withstand the elements.
Product Intro: the 12.0 Line Source Bollard Speaker System
A focal point of the NYC-held exhibition was the new 12.0 Line Source Bollard speaker system. The ground-plane Line Source speaker is, indeed, aesthetically as impressive as its performance attributes. It uses patent-pending variable waveguide technology to enhance its line-array performance, providing near-field (4 to 12 feet), mid-field (12 to 36 feet) and far-field (36-100 feet) listening-area coverage. It further offers 1,000-watt power handling and features a high-power bandpass subwoofer to fill out the frequency range. It will be available in May in standard ($7.500 each) and customizable ($10,000 each) versions, said D’Ascanio.
The company supplies product through about 700 dealers/integrators at present, including LED landscape lighting solutions for designed to circumvent common maintenance issues that arise with outdoor placement. Listed on the Coastal Source web site are at nearly a dozen outdoor-oriented products that address different placement needs, and the company’s Todd Zimmermann, vice president of business development, said the company is actively expanding its reach on that front.
