Successories: BlueBOLT to the Rescue
Every year, the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) puts on a trade show to exhibit the world’s newest technology aimed at home theater installations. The event attracts a wide range of exhibitors, industry professionals, and training experts from all facets of the A/V marketplace.
Throughout CEDIA’s most recent exhibition in Denver, show participants were unable to obtain data coverage for their mobile devices. As a result, attendees could make and receive calls but were unable to send and receive emails or gain access to the Internet. This caused disruptions for a number of attendees, including an integrator who received an urgent call from a stranded customer located thousands of miles away.
“I received a call from my client in Connecticut about malfunctions on a large residential project,” said Mike Butler, partner at Phoenix Audio Video & Systems Integration. “Being so far from the installation, it was practically impossible to solve the issue over the phone, let alone diagnose something with limited and slow data connection on my mobile. Luckily, I was standing in the Core Brands booth at the time and was able to access the installation using the BlueBOLT demo computer.”
As a BlueBOLT-certified integrator, Butler was able to log into his BlueBOLT account via Core Brand’s showcase demo to access his customer’s installation remotely. A cloud-based solution, BlueBOLT can be accessed via any Web-enabled device or computer — including the Core Brands setup fitted especially for live BlueBOLT demonstrations at the event. With no software installation required for specific setups, the integrator was able to access his account and solve the issue directly from the trade show floor.
“The most effective solution for solving a myriad of A/V problems is still the hard reboot technique. Using BlueBOLT, I can monitor installations and reboot equipment remotely no matter where I am in the world, which saves me time and money as well as the inconvenience of having to manually reach behind equipment to investigate,” added Butler. “In this particular case, my customer had a video distribution zone that was not responding to the remote. With BlueBOLT’s powerful remote capabilities, I was able to perform a hard reboot to get the system up and running immediately, even from a show floor in Colorado.”
Installed in Ridgefield, CT, the BlueBOLT-connected system consisted of five Furman F1500UPS uninterruptible power supply units, a control system, a lighting processor, CCTV camera NVRs, home theater A/V equipment, a video distribution system and network devices. The system included 24 zones of multiroom audio, five rooms of distributed video and a dedicated home theater. Using BlueBOLT, the integrator gained outlet-specific energy monitoring, control, scheduling conservation and surge protection for the equipment. By setting up email alerts in case of energy or equipment anomalies, users can also monitor issues and check in on systems before clients even realize there is a problem.
“I received a call from my client shortly after my remote intervention to confirm that the hard reboot had solved the issue,” said Butler. “They were thrilled that we could resolve the problem so quickly and with such minimal disruptions.” •
